La fine del XVIII secolo è stato un periodo di grande espansione e innovazione per Edimburgo. Per migliorare l'accesso dalla Città Vecchia per i suoi nuovi sviluppi, vennero costruite due enormi strutture, i ponti Nord e Sud. Intorno al 1790 c'erano quasi un centinaio di aziende attive nel Ponte Sud con le loro botteghe nelle volte sotterranee sotto.
Oltre che per la mancanza di luce naturale, le volte soffrivano di infiltrazioni di acqua provenienti dal Ponte Sud sovrastante, e le stalattiti ne sono la testimonianza.
Ma, c'era anche il lato oscuro. Nell'immediato sud c'era anche Infirmary Street, dove aveva sede la scuola di medicina di Edimburgo. Fu qui che la famigerata coppia Burke e Hare vendettero i corpi delle vittime da loro assassinate. Potrebbero le volte aver conservato un tipo diverso di merce?

This tour could have been better if I had a better tour guide. She was boring and I was half asleep listening to her. She didn't do anything to make this an interesting tour....it was like I was back in school, very monotone. This tour guide put me off completely from the tour.

Well worth the visit We were fascinating by this. Good guide great Knowledge. Good value for money Would be difficult for someone unsteady on there feet

This is a fun and interesting tour of underground Edinburgh. The tour guides were funny and knowledgeable.
