I really enjoyed this tour with Uncle Danny uncle a respectful Hawaiian term for any elder gentleman. He was a wealth of cultural and geological information about his island. We started our tour out of Kona and proceeded to a working coffee plantation high in the hills with a great view of the ocean. There, we were treated to a lovely breakfast included in the tour and you can purchase bags of Kona coffee on the premises. Going back down to sea level, we traveled to the famous black sand beach with a backdrop of coconut palms lining the glistening black sand and pounding ocean surf. We were lucky because we saw several large sea turtles basking on the beach. This tour passes the town of Hilo and shows the traveler the many different terrain of Hawaii which includes tropical forests and volcanic rock. Danny took us deep into a lava tube and we then proceeded to the steaming vents of Kileaua which we viewed from a distance at the National Geological Visitors Center at Hawaii Volcano National Park. The trip ended with a visit to view a beautiful waterfall on private property no access. There, our guide Danny, treated us to freshly picked lychee fruit, delicious! I highly recommend this trip! Note: This trip did not include any hiking to the volcano , but was rather an overview of the best that the Big Island has to offer.
