Best of Melbourne City Tour with Colonial Tramcar Restaurant Dinner

It's our first time coming to Melbourne and this package allows us to see an overview of the city via 1 hour river cruise on Yarra River and 3.5 hours city tour via Coach bus. Our tour guide and driver James is very knowledgeble and provides us lots of history and story while we are on coach bus ride touring the city. We were able to stop by Royal Botanical Garden, Port Melbourne, St. Kilda, etc. Enjoyed the lunch box and sandwiches provided by the tour. A great tour if you would like to get an overview of the city. Enjoyed the dinner so much at the Colonial Tramcar Restaurant. It's a unique dining experience. You are able to enjoy the dinner and view the city view outside the tramcar as well. The 3 course dinner are delicious. Highly recommended for first-time visitor to Melbourne.

A mixed bag. The Yarra River cruise was disappointing. No seating had been set aside for those of us joining the cruise with Gray Line so we had to make do with whatever was left available. Having established that almost everyone on-board was not Australian the guide proceeded with a commentary that assumed a level of knowledge of Australian politics that I suspect many Australians would not have. He also seemed obsessed with the prices of the riverside properties that have been built in recent years. The gourmet box lunch we were given did not contain what had been pre-ordered. I had ordered Beef - Focaccia but received Pork on multi-grain bread. One of the other guests had specified no dairy but their sandwich was buttered. It appeared everyone was given what was available not what they had ordered, particular annoying given that I had received a number of emails, some months in advance, asking me for my lunch order. There was then a problem with our driver not being available which took about an hour to resolve. This meant that we had less time at the Royal Botanic Gardens than we would have liked. The replacement driver we eventually got was excellent, friendly, informative and amusing, but the lost time could not be made up. No form of compensation was offered. The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant was one of the highlights of our three weeks in Australia. A unique experience and how they manage to produce such good food in such a limited kitchen is amazing.

Ok food, and it was a nice way to see the town and experience what it must have been like a hundred years ago when they still had this kind of train.

The highlight of this tour was the dinner on the Tramcar. Excellent food and service. The river tour portion was less than spectacular as the only view was through windows at the sides of the boat. Would have been much better if the boat was uncovered or had a glass ceiling. The bus portion was as expected, visits of some interesting sites, however the commentary from the driver was rather political and a bit off putting.

Fun way to spend some time and eat dinner at the same time!

We booked this experience for the early evening 3 course meal. We were seated quickly and professionally by the staff. The seating was comfortable. The food was of a very good quality considering the cramped conditions for the chef and staff. Our head waiter was Peter who was originally from England, he looked after us very well, making sure we had everything we needed and keeping our glasses topped up. The whole experience was great, eating good food, drinking great wine while watching the sights of Melbourne go by. This is not to be missed when in Melbourne.
