As a local New Yorker this tour is my yearly treat to myself. You get a real one of a kind experience!
1. Tour guide spent 15 of out 90 minutes lecturing on history of MET, to begin our tour. 2. Later, she spent another 5 minutes showing us where the old entrance to the MET had been. This tour cost over $2 per minute per person. So for my wife and I we paid $80 to hear about history of MET and its former entrance. 3. Meaningless 15 minutes in Oceana section, etc. But maybe we were the only two not at all interested in the temporary ceiling. 4. Only Egypt artifact shown was temple Dendera, at very end of ancient Egypt. No one ever mentions the obelisk just outside the building. Maybe the US should give it back. Sad, very sad. Great museum, horrible tour. In hind sight, would only have done if free.
Amazing way to see the Met for firstimers like me. You get to have the highlights before get to explore it on your own. Our guide was really good. It is quite pricey but definitely worth it
I had been to the met a few times before the EmptyMet Tour. From those few times I found it difficult to recall the experience. The EmptyMet tour is unforgettable from the outstanding docent and her information to the incredible exhibits. I feel I know what the Met has to offer now and will look forward to going back with renewed interest. A real bonus to the tour was being able to go to three special exhibits and the rooftop immediately after. We beat the crowds and left with a lifetime of memories.
We loved the tour of the Met before it opened. It’s a little rushed because you only have 1.5 hours but our guide was terrific and we learned so much. A great way to see the Met without the crowds. FYI - you get two days of free access to the Met and all the annexes (including the cloisters) so plan it when you’ll be around nyc for a few days after.
We really enjoyed our tour and the expertise of our guide. In the allocated 90 mins we only had access to about 7-8 different items but that was still fine because our passes were valid for 3 days. We spent 9 hours in total in the museum and still did not see everything and our hopes of seeing the met cloisters and breuer in one trip were a bit unrealistic! So we will have to make another trip back. Great entertainment though. Totally worth the cost. I loved it.
When I booked this tour I wasn't sure what was going to be the difference of doing it on regular hours, however this is the best experience I've ever had in an museum, this is an experience that people that appreciated art and history and want more than the "I was here feeling" should try this tour. Just to be able to enjoy the art with almost no one around and getting the right guidance it is priceless. My son and I enjoyed it and thought it was the best experience of our trip.
Do it! Yes, the price tag is high.....and it is worth every penny! To have the MET to yourself with a very knowledgeable museum curator has set the bar high for all future museum visits. I wish they offered this type of tour of more museums, as we would sign up for nothing else but this set-up to truly be able to enjoy the space and the artifacts while getting insight beyond what is on the label and yet without the crush of the crowds.
Not cheap, but well worth the money. To see the MMoA ahead of the crowds with a personal guide is something amazing. From being able to clearly hear your guides and close up views of exhibits, through to being able to take photos of completely empty rooms - an amazing experience. And, just as we finished up the front doors opened and floods of people came in. So glad we saw the museum this way and now think it may be the only way to visit museums!
Perfect way to see the art and get great photos without all the crowds!
I would highly recommend this tour as it was well worth the money to have 90 minutes in the Met with only about 20 other people.
