Your route takes you through Braulio Carrillo National Park, a pristine wonderland of waterfalls, volcanoes and dense rainforest.

Arrive at Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí (known by locals as simply ‘Puerto Viejo’), located in northeastern Costa Rica at the junction of the Puerto Viejo and Sarapiquí rivers. Board a boat and cruise down the Sarapiquí River, which runs from the Central Mountain Range north of San Jose to the San Marcos River.
During the 1.5-hour boat ride, admire the tropical rainforest lowlands and catch sight of crocodiles and toucans as well as sloths and monkeys. Learn about the local plant and animal life you see along the way.
Next, head to Madero Negro, a private reserve in the Sarapiquí region, for an easygoing, 1-hour guided horseback ride through rainforest jungle. Keep watch for the furtive movements of monkeys and iguanas in the lush vegetation. Delight in sighting an array of birds, including herons and tanagers.
Back at the reserve, dig into a hearty Costa Rican lunch and then stroll through a butterfly garden and sanctuary of frogs and snakes. When it's time to leave, board your minivan that speeds you back to San Jose along the same scenic route.

The guide mauricio was excellent a very knowledgeable guide from the moment we got picked up he told us everything about Costa Rica etc....on the boat trip he pointed out some good points animals etc a very very good guide.....now the horse riding it states suitable for all levels!!!!!! I have never been on a horse we arrived got given a helmet then on the horses.....not much to see in the rain forest as was concentrating on where the horse was going....then the horse decides to throw me off!!!!!! Luckily landed in mud!!! The guide at the front stopped came back and simply gave me he's horse and off we went again...didn't really seemed concerned that I came off the horse it may not of been serious to him but for all he could of know I could of seriously hurt myself just bruises..also some of the horses looked very thin...the tour was good but horse riding.....mmmmmm seriously think about it
Amazing tour! We saw so many animals in their natural habitat! Great way to spend my birthday.
very well organized. Log ride to get to the river , but worth the wait
River boat ride was good. The horseback is not to be recommended.
Our guide was great, as was the boat ride portion. Got to see lots of wildlife. The horseback riding was very disappointing however, as there were at least 2 other riders who had no control of their horses and allowed them to wander aimlessly. The riding guide spoke zero English, even though an English option was offered when booking, and there was no riding instruction at all we were not even asked if we'd be on a horse before. This contributed highly to the riding portion being short and boring.
I thought this tour was unorganized. It also felt like a rip off. I don't believe we rode horses for an hour. The trail was just a lil path through the woods which had barbwire which my hourse leaned towards and put a hole in my pants. The river boat road was not good. They were more interested in showing us iguanas which I've seen a million times. We saw some monkeys up in the trees and 1 bird and that was it. While I know they have no control over what we saw our guide was so busy chatting with the boat driver that he mised opportunities to tell us more about the river and maybe wildlife. The lunch that was provided was mediocre at best. My sister's chicken had hair in it. Needless to say we didn't eat much. We also finished the tour before the other in our group and had to sit around and wait about 20 min doing nothing before someone asked if we wanted to see the butterfly garden. Overall it was unorganized. And a long day and our guide smelled of alcohol.
Well worth the money. Very Fun. Jorge, Carlos the van driver, and Chino tyne river boat captain were very professional and knowledgeable.
Had fun
The tour and the Guides were amazing, my only concern was how thin the horses looked
