Si salirà a bordo di un comodo pullman con aria condizionata alla Union Station di Washington DC e si viaggerà per 2 ore e mezza attraverso il panoramico Maryland e la compagna della Pennsylvania fino a Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Durante il tragitto, la guida illustrerà il contesto storico riguardante l'importantissima battaglia di Gettysburg. Combattuta nel 1863, questa battaglia di tre giorni tra le truppe confederate e dell'Unione ha causato il più alto numero di vittime di qualsiasi altra battaglia della guerra civile americana: più di 46.000.
La prima tappa a Gettysburg è Farnsworth House, dove sarà possibile guardare una presentazione su quella che era la vita dei soldati durante la guerra civile e vedere dove i tiratori scelti confederati si nascondevano durante la battaglia. Dopo questa visita, si farà una pausa per il pranzo (a proprie spese).
Si proseguirà verso il campo di battaglia di Gettysburg e si avrà del tempo a disposizione per esplorare per conto proprio. Al Gettysburg National Military Park Museum e al Centro Visitatori, si guarderà un film sulla battaglia narrato dall'attore Morgan Freeman e si vedrà una serie di mostre informative sulla battaglia che viene comunemente considerata un punto di svolta nella guerra civile americana. Si ammirerà il Gettysburg Cyclorama, un incredibile diorama militare in miniatura che riproduce la violenta battaglia con l'ausilio di un commento ed effetti sonori. Durante la visita, delle guide esperte sono a disposizione per rispondere alle domande riguardanti la battaglia di Gettysburg e le sue conseguenze.
Per avere un quadro completo dell'impatto della battaglia, si potrà anche visitare il vicino Shriver House Museum. Si avrà modo di visitare la casa ristrutturata di George Washington Shriver, situata nel mezzo del combattimento durante la battaglia di Gettysburg. Si scoprirà l'angosciante esperienza della famiglia Shirver durante la battaglia, si visiterà la soffitta della casa dove morirono due tiratori scelti confederati e si vedranno gli autentici proiettili della Guerra Civile, scoperti nella casa dopo più di 100 anni dalla guerra.
Si avrà modo di rilassarsi durante il viaggio di ritorno a Washington DC, dove questo tour di 10 ore e mezza si concluderà alla Union Station.

The tour was really good. The driver did a really great job. The national park has great facilities. Our only criticism is that the tour had too much wasted time so that the return journey hit the worst of rush hour traffic.

I really enjoyed my daytrip from Washington DC to the battlefields of Gettysburg. The trip included comfortable busride , a stop at Gettysburg Visitor center , A vist at the Shriver House and of couse a two hours guided tour of the battlefield. I recommend the tour for all interested in American history. A perfect daytrip out of DC.

Bus ride was comfortable and our driver was informative. It took 2 hours to get there.We were able to get on and off bus to walk around the different battleground sites and monuments. Another reviewer mentioned lunch choices were not appealing, so I packed a picnic thinking we could set up under a tree somewhere and enjoy the view. Unfortunately, we were driven about 2 miles away to a dismal shopping area with a food court. No choice was given. This needs to be re-evaluated. Gettysburg had a few small restaurants that could have worked (our group was about 16). I would prefer to give my lunch business to a local restaurant owner than a food court chain. Guides were all great. Loved what they did and it showed. Overall great experience, except for lunch.

Very well organised trip, although the joining instructions 'Union Station' could have been more specific for people not from DC - it was actually the Bus Station at the rear of Union Station which I only discovered after 20 minutes. The trip itself was good with a visit to the Shriver house (recreated building in Gettysburg itself), the visitor centre plus a two hour tour of the battlefield with a very well informed guide. The bus driver was also very informative providing background and historical context during the 2.5 hour journey to and from Washington.

Wish we had more time to walk the hollowed grounds, but with a bus load of people, thats hard to do. I didnt realize that the battlefield was so big. Good history lesson to learn about the cost of war, and how it affects all of us. May God bless and have mercy on America.
